The idea of mustard as “excellent” or “great,” is at the root of the saying. Mustard adds spice, heat & zest. It brings flavours forward and amplifies them.
As early as the 1600s, “keen as mustard” was a figure of speech for something powerful & passionate. From there the saying “Cut the Mustard” started being associated with a person or something that was “excellent, praiseworthy, above standard.” Harvesting mustard was also very arduous work and required extremely sharp tools and physical strength.
These days the concept goes even further in British slang with people calling each other Mustard! “Be the Mustard”, means “Be great, be genuine, be above a mediocre standard!”
And that is exactly what our products and brand represents!
